This project comprised
the complete refurbishment of a large private house overlooking Dublin
Bay. The house had plenty of natural light with wonderful views but very
little character.
The brief was to create an ambience appropriate to the magnificent setting.
This was partially achieved by using antique furniture and paintings purchased
over the years by the client and ourselves for their previous house, with
the addition of some new pieces.
For the formal drawing room we sourced the new oversized comfortable couches
to compliment the large room, upholstered them in cream damask, and then
recovered our client's own antique chairs in a coordinating cream and
pale green fabric. Windows were dressed in cream damask edged in green
and hung on substantial hand painted and gilded curtain poles. A large
low table between the couches was custom made from old wood so that it
would be in keeping with the furniture. The pale green carpet was continued
out to the hallway, where the walls were hand painted in faux finish to
resemble sandstone blocks, and the full height window was dressed in cream
linen interlined curtains pulled back by thick cream cord tie-backs.
The first two photographs show the entrance hall, the following two show
the drawing room and the last a bathroom which is part of a suite with
dressing-room and bedroom. Jane Reddy Interiors designed the custom made
furniture throughout the suite in cherry wood and also designed two narrow
full length windows in the bathroom on either side of the free standing
vanity unit, lined and framed in cherry and dressed with wide slat wood
Venetian blinds. Granite counter tops complement the black and white checkerboard
floor.
